Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio developer behind Yakuza/Judgement series has give us a glimpse of Project Century during The Game Awards 2024. This just came after RGG Studio announced Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
This game marks a significant departure from the studio’s well-known Yakuza series, taking players back to 1915 Japan and featuring a more visceral and gritty combat style.
Unlike the turn-based mechanics seen in recent Yakuza titles, Project Century will feature real-time combat reminiscent of classic brawler gameplay from older Yakuza titles and Judgement titles.
While there were many melee actions in the clip, we still do not know about its main character and overarching plot. The protagonist is described as a mysterious figure, and there are hints of alternate history elements within the game’s narrative.
As of now, the game is in a pre-alpha development state. Given the fast-paced development cycle of Yakuza titles, which often re-use assets, and considering the existence of Like a Dragon: Ishin!, it is likely that more information about this game will be announced sometime next year.
