Up until now if you want to backup your games from older consoles such as Wii, GameCube, Xbox 360 and Xbox requires you tto mod the hardware and install custom dashboard to do so. Now there is a new way to do so and only requires a modded blu-ray drive.

So far OmniDrive can turn compatible drive into game preservation for various consoles. Compatibility is strictly limited to select Blu-Ray disc drives using the MediaTek MT1959 chipset with OmniDrive firmware. List of supported drives are listed on Redump.org wiki.

Right now, if you plan to flash the OmniDrive firmware, only Xbox, Xbox 360, GameCube are fully supported with full data backup with rest of the consoles like PS3, 4, 5, Wii U and Dreamcast are encrypted in some shape of form. Xbox One/Series consoles works but just like the rest, is encrypted. Normal CD/DVD/BD/UHD support are fully intact. You can read more on it’s Github page.

If you have used MakeMKV for Blu-Ray and UHD backup and have flashed firmware before, this step will be very familiar. Flashing the wrong firmware could brick your drive.
