Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has officially revealed Stranger Than Heaven, the final title for what was previously known as Project Century. The project made its public debut at The Game Awards 2024, where an initial trailer offered a tantalizing glimpse into its unique setting. The game returned to the spotlight at Summer Game Fest 2025, this time with a new trailer and its official name.
The original trailer evoked the atmosphere of early-20th-century Judgment, featuring a detective wandering through a rain-soaked Japanese city circa 1914. In contrast, the latest footage draws comparisons to L.A. Noire, highlighting a more stylized, neon-lit urban landscape.
At the heart of Stranger Than Heaven is Mako Daito, a detective searching for answers to an unknown mystery in a city brimming with excess—glamorous nightclubs, rowdy street fights, seedy tenements, and bustling, neon-soaked high streets. The game appears to blend martial arts combat with classic detective investigations, promising a unique gameplay experience.
The trailer concludes with a dramatic encounter: Mako meets an American who’s surprised to find the detective is Japanese, culminating in Mako’s poignant admission that he’s lost sight of himself.
Despite these intriguing glimpses, much about Stranger Than Heaven remains under wraps with no release date or system specification.
