After Parting Ways With Sony On Physint, Kojima Productions Loses Access To Decima Engine

Kojima Productions has lost official access to the proprietary Decima Graphics Engine after Sony ended collaboration with Hideo Kojima on the spy action game Physint due to disagreements over the production budget and profitability.

After Kojima split from Konami in late 2015, Konami retained the rights to the Fox Engine. When Kojima Productions partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), Kojima was then given a tour and inspect internal Sony studio technologies and eventually landed on Decima Graphics Engine for his ambitious, photorealistic open-world game – Death Stranding.

The lose of Sony means the team spent few month searching for a partner and now the team unable to use Sony’s internal technology. Which means the team has to rethink the project’s tech stack and migrate existing motion and geometry capture developments to a third-party solution.

The team already started using Unreal Engine 5 for their previous OD project, so they don’t have to go and search for a brand new engine. Physint’s official release date has yet to be announced, and the project itself is in the early stages of development.
